5pm – 6.30pm Tales for Today
Modern-day fairytale writer Polly Tuckett leads this workshop on how to write your own fairytales.
Most people first encounter fairytales in childhood when these simple yet mystifying yarns cast the most bewitching of spells, but this workshop will show you how writers and readers of all ages can find inspiration from the form. Explore how writers throughout the ages have updated original tales, reversed villains and heroes and mined the subversive vein often to be found in the original story. Discover how you can use fairytales as templates for wondrous reworkings, new associations and fresh questions of your own.
Polly Tuckett writes short fiction and poetry and has had work published in various journals. She grew up in Norwich, Brighton, London and Oxford. Polly is a Writing School East Midland tutor, was curator for Short Fuse, a Leicester-based literary/arts organization, and runs writing workshops which emphasise the importance of intensive reading.
