Our celebrated pop-up live literature festival comes home to Leicester on Sat 25th April as part of the Inside Out Festival at Curve.

Join us for a day of poetry, storytelling, workshops, open mics and music jams, with special guests: Mouthy Poets (feat. John Berkavitch), Joel Stickley, David Gibb, Melanie Abrahams & rennaisance one and Writing School East Midlands with Lydia Towsey.

This year, we welcome back Joel Stickley to lead us through the day of events.

Joel-StickleyJoel is the Poet Laureate for Lincolnshire and author of the book 100 Ways To Write Badly Well. His work has been published by Penguin, Hamish Hamilton and Pan Macmillan, as well as appearing on BBC One, BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4. With Luke Wright, he co-wrote the film Crash! Bang! Wallow! which won the NFBC Short Film Award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, and wrote the comedy book Who Writes This Crap? which the Guardian called “an inspired piece of parody.”

 

 

 

Performance Poetry Workshop

Deborah at BAC 19Kick off your Lyric Lounge experience with a workshop with Deborah Stevenson – founder and artistic director of Nottingham’s Mouthy Poets and one of Curve’s associate artists. Deborah has performed and taught performance poetry skills across the world and is a regular contributor to Lyric Lounge. This two hour workshop is a great opportunity to spend time with an artist who is as generous with her advice as she is talented at her craft. Suitable for ages 14+.

Letters Through Your Door

This fun and exciting album and stage show for families is written and performed by award-winning songwriter David Gibb. Enjoy a performance packed full of catchy, toe tapping numbers featuring original songs as well as children’s songs from around the world.

This event is curated by Melanie Abrahams and produced by renaissance one.

berkavitch-smallNottingham’s Mouthy Poets have been touring the country, unpacking their suitcases and telling their stories using their unique blend of performance poetry, film and music. Their performance at Lyric Lounge will be your final opportunity to see them on tour, alongside a headline performance by Leicester’s own poetry giant, John Berkavitch, who will treat us to a scratch performance of his latest commissioned piece, WRONG, supported Breaking Convention and Arts Council England. Suitable for ages 14 up.
